Project Overview
For the much-anticipated “Vanakkam Coimbatore” concert held at CODISSIA Grounds, our team at JB & KM Structural Consultants and Designers conceptualized and executed a stage design that fuses cultural energy with architectural precision. Bringing together over a dozen performers under the “Sound of Madras” theme, the set was created to celebrate Tamil identity while delivering a fully immersive experience for a large live audience.
The stage was not just a performance space—it was a sculptural backdrop, a digital canvas, and a ceremonial gateway that welcomed Coimbatore’s vibrant crowd with grandeur and grace.
Design Highlights
- Iconic Central Spine: A towering vertical LED panel at the center anchors the composition and doubles as a visual storytelling surface, surrounded by stepped vertical fins reminiscent of temple gopurams.
- Symmetry and Rhythm: The overall layout follows a strong bilateral symmetry, with repeated vertical light trusses that echo musical bars—symbolizing rhythm and harmony.
- Multi-layered Lighting Integration: Over 150 moving head lights were strategically placed across facades, towers, and lower tiers, allowing for complex lighting sequences and mood transitions throughout the show.
- Artist Showcase Panels: Larger-than-life vertical banners showcase the performing artists, blending static and dynamic visuals to enhance fan engagement.
- Sound Power Towers: Raised and structurally reinforced speaker towers on either side ensure optimal audio reach for large-scale outdoor settings.
- Crowd-Facing Interaction Zone: The extended front podium with a lower lighting ramp connects the performers to the audience, enhancing intimacy and visibility.
